Liliana and Rafael play at 6:00 at Cuates y Cuetes on Sunday evenings. Don’t miss their wonderful show!
I was first introduced to Faralae at the 21st Cuetes y Cuetes Jazz Festival and like everyone else was captivated by Liliana
Buneder’s innovative presentation, her voice and versatility. The talented guitarists Alexander Martinez Gil and Rafael Zermeño were impressive and relaxed in their style. Now two years later, I have become a loyal fan enjoying their music whenever possible. They are based in Mexico City but travel to Puerto Vallarta several times a year. Their Mexico City appearances are worth the trip as they are jammed by the many enthusiastic fans they have in their home city.
Liliana of Faralae is from a very large musical family in Mexico City, not professional musicians but those who at every family event would burst out in song. So from an early age she has been performing. Later she studied voice in high school at Bella’s Artes in Mexico City. She received her degree at UNAM in Opera, the only track available for study of voice at the time so you can tell where her incredible range and discipline come from, as well as her mastery of several languages. When she met jazz guitarist Alexander Martinez Gil from the famous trio family of the 1950’s, she switched over to jazz. The group Faralae was formed around the concept of jazz extrafalario which according to them consists of a fusion of bossa nova, blues and country “with the sexy voice of Liliana Buneder”. The result is absolutely enchanting. From the energetic rendition of Putting on the Ritz that I heard the other night at Cuates y Cuetes here in Puerto Vallarta to the French favorite Juste quelqu’un de bien, they set the house on fire with amazing guitar and Liliana’s beautiful voice and inventive scat. This is music you can’t talk about, you just have to experience it!
Liliane is currently performing sola with the talented Rafael Zermeño on guitar. She lives in Mexico City but is generally in Puerto Vallarta in March for the Cuartes y Cuetes Jazz Festival. Keep your eyes and ears open!
