I was pleased to welcome in 2022 at a beautiful dinner on the beach in front of Cuates y Cuetes restaurant bar on the eve of the new year. Friends and I joined a happy group of diners for a delicious dinner organized by management with the talented hand of our friend and co manager Leo, who did not hold back in either the cuisine or the service. The entire evening went without flaws, from the live music by Alex Martinez Gil and Paco Barrajas for dinner to the talented DJ who orchestrated the sounds for dancing and celebrating. The music from the 1980s and '90s had families and friends dancing on the sand and reliving times of more abandon.
Kudos to Cuates y Cuetes and other venues which went out of their way to provide a safe and exciting party that night accompanied by a fantastic collection of fireworks from all sides of the Bay sponsored by the city and other entities
We are fortunate to enjoy music and outdoor life in Puerto Vallarta. The outlook is not perfect as far as the coronavirus is concerned, but I feel people are doing their best to follow instructions, live sensibly, and enjoy their lives.
Now I must say that Friday night at midnight, as we walked home, we found the streets crowded with way too many people without masks celebrating in the streets. I was sorry to see so many people close together and the absence of face covering, but I hope everyone came out of it all right because they were having a wonderful time.
We still face some difficult times ahead of us, and in most countries around the world, the atmosphere is the same. People are getting short on patience with this virus and having difficulty accepting the restrictions. Still, we're just crossing our fingers and hoping and praying that the news in the next few months tells us that we are doing the right thing regarding the illnesses.
Sunday morning, my daughter and I had the honor and pleasure of joining Esaú Galván and his family for breakfast. It was indeed special for me as since the pandemic started, the opportunity to see Esaú, a tremendously talented flamenco guitarist from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, has been limited. My daughter and I enjoyed catching up and chatting with him and his lovely family. His son interviewed us for his English class! Esau is playing at the marvelous restaurant Masala on Calle Coral in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on Thursday evenings, and I plan to make a trip up to the beautiful town very soon to hear him play.
It is well worth the trip for those who have not yet visited La Cruz. The town enjoys a lovely marina and upscale lifestyle due to so many sailing visitors and yet still maintains the quaintness of a solid little fishing village. I always enjoy attending Tree House Bar concerts on Coral Street, where Alfredo and MariChuy Jimenez offer great meals and wonderful music in the open-air bar beneath a giant Huanacaxtle tree. The entertainment is always top-notch and features the likes of Media Luna, Amy Armstrong with Piel Canela, and many other top-name groups.
I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year from myself and our musical community, who appreciate your friendship and patronage! Good health and prosperity to all!
