I first became familiar with the incredible talent of Osmar Esquivel, classically trained violinist and pianist as well as master accordionist, when he played mediterranean and jazz manouche with the popular group  Moruno at Cuates y Cuetes next to the pier in the Zona Romantica in Puerto Vallarta.  After he took a new job in Leon, I caught up with him with the new group he co created called Gato Negro.  Last July I traveled to Mexico City where Gato Negro played one of the oldest and most renowned jazz clubs in town called New Orleans Jazz.  It was truly a wonderful show where they shared not only music from their wonderful CD Ciudad de Arcilla but also introduced their new project D'Jango Post Mortem, a wonderful tribute to Django Reinhardt. That evening they were joined by a marvelous guitar player, Jac Hechem, and together we discussed the music of Django.  Jac and Osmar both are great fans of Django Reinhardt and play his jazz manouche like no others!  When Osmar and Jac left Gato Negro, I lost track of them.  Recently I have been fortunate to come across these 4 videos by Jac and Osmar which I am happy to be able to share on this page.  I hope to discover more very soon about the duo, where they are playing and their plans for the future.  Until then, please enjoy these wonderful renditions of these lovely pieces. For more information about the career of Osmar Esquivel see my article in August 2018 edition of Vallarta Tribune.
