I first met Liliana Buneder in 2021 when though living in Mexico City she performed in Puerto Vallarta for the festivals. She is a first rate jazz performer who weaves a spell with her powerful jazz and incredible scat. She is from a very large musical family in Mexico City, not professional musicians but those who at every family event would burst out in song. So from an early age she has been performing. Later she studied voice in high school at Bella’s Artes in Mexico City. She received her degree at UNAM in Opera, the only track available for study of voice at the time so you can tell where her incredible range and discipline come from, as well as her mastery of several languages. Later she switched over to jazz, bossa nova, blues and sometimes country. Her voice is unique and sexy as well and she surprises us with her ability to imitate many musical instruments in a scat style which she perfects. The result is absolutely enchanting. From the energetic rendition of Putting on the Ritz that I heard the other night at Cuates y Cuetes here in Puerto Vallarta to the French favorite Juste quelqu’un de bien, she sets the house on fire. The amazing guitar accompaniment of Rafael Zermeño tops it off and she often invites talented guests to add pizzazz. This is music you can’t talk about, you just have to experience it!
Liliana is currently living in Puerto Vallarta and performing performing with the talented Rafael Zermeño. She performs at Cuates y Cuetes by the old pier in the Romantic Zone every Friday evening from 8:30 to 10:30.
