If you don’t yet know them yet, Media Luna is a group made up of two brothers, Caleb and Jair Cabrera and their cousin Jonatan Gibran.
The young men, originally from the state of Hidalgo, started their career together in 2014 and had been setting their adopted home of San Miguel de Allende on fire for the past several years combining gypsy rumba, flamenco, rock and huapango when they arrived last January and took Puerto Vallarta by storm with their original compositions and innovative arrangements of traditional pieces. Last year’s shows in the cabaret at Incanto were extremely popular. Caleb enjoys surprising his audiences with invited guests who make the show even more spectacular.
Media Luna spent a month in Montreal stealing the hearts of Quebecois this summer and then returned to San Miguel de Allende for the fall season. Puerto Vallarta got them back on December 6th for a stunning premier show at Incanto featuring invited guest Duende on violin. They will perform at Incanto (Insurgentes #109) this year every Thursday evening at 7:00 PM and December 27 at 9:30 PM. Along with the great music that they have thrilled listeners with in the past, Jair tells us that we can expect some completely new musical creations.
In addition to their performances at Incanto, the group will perform Sundays from 1-3 in the luscious natural setting of the relatively new venue Babel Bar on Isla Cuale (Aquiles Serdan #437 next to the River Cuale). There they light up the setting with their incredible energy and guitar skills with pieces ranging from Jair’s dramatic composition, El Bravo, to the fiery Mexican traditional, El Cascabel. A wonderful way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon.
Of course we don’t want to leave out Cuates y Cuetes next to the pier in the Romantic Zone where they will entertain us on Tuesday evenings from 6-8 PM. No better way to watch the sunset than with their exciting and charged guitar music accompanying the extravagant show of color we regularly enjoy as the sun descends over the Banderas Bay.
People of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle rejoice! Media Luna will play at Tree House Bar (Coral #66) on December 15 and 31. Call for details: 322 182 4026.
For those who have been following my articles regarding the fiery flamenco group Tatewari and their 12th anniversary party and CD release I can report that both the concert at Tree House Bar on Thanksgiving in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle and the December 8th concert at Incanto in Puerto Vallarta left audiences floating on clouds! The beauty of the original music and the camaraderie of the group had audiences clamoring for more. Many of my friends said the concerts were the best they had seen.
As a special treat in Puerto Vallarta at Incanto, Tatewari brought as a guest performer the renowned flamenco guitarist Wolfgang “Lobo” Fink. Together they gave us a performance we will not forget. Dancer Gabriela Raigaza joined them for a magnificent performance of Asturias. We hope to see much more of this!
Tatewari has their next concert at Tree House Bar in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle on December 17 at 7:00PM and Lobo and Esaú will thrill us with concerts in 2019 beginning at Incanto on January 13. Let’s get those dates on our calendars!
Winter is a time to rejoice, especially in this paradise in which we live. What better way to celebrate than listening to incredible live music by our talented musician friends!
