The coming together of two strains of music brought by the migration of the Romani people from northern India to Europe, one through Byzantium into Eastern Europe and on to France and the other through Africa into Spain will be celebrated in a festive farewell for the talented group Moruno as their season here comes to an end at Babel Bar on July 6.
Del Oriente al Flamenco will be a marvelous dinner show featuring the talented duo made up of Diego Mateo from Andalucia and Ignacio Flores from Guadalajara, both now Puerto Vallarta residents who have been entertaining us here since 2014. I first heard them playing at Cuates y Cuetes several years ago, lured by sounds reminiscent of Django Reinhardt’s jazz manouche. Their music was an incredible mix of Spanish flamenco and gypsy jazz, along with Greek, Moroccan and Egyptian sounds. Their audiences couldn’t get enough!
Diego and Nacho were both heavily influenced in their childhood by music loving families. Their formal studies and creative projects have provided them with a talent to be recond with. Diego carries the innate sense of flamenco rhythm and wonderful flamenco guitar skills. In addition to Nacho’s formal study of music, his family was very much into Mediterranean music and jazz manouche, no doubt influencing him. He plays inspired Spanish guitar, Arabian Oud, Bouzouki and Mandolin. Joining them for this fabulous party will be the talented flamenco dancer Sol and Middle Eastern style belly dancer Aisha. You will be carried away by the exotic entertainment and atmosphere!
Chef Conrado R. Ruelas (chef from 1001 Nights) will prepare a special Arab/Spanish menu for the event. This will be a no cover event but reservations are recommended for dinner, so be sure to reserve early to assure prime seating. Saturday, July 6 at 6:00PM. Don’t miss out on this spectacular event!
