Just when you think you have things figured out, everything gets scrambled. This is what happens to me when I try to track the whereabouts of my favorite musicians. There are changes on the part of venues and changes in their own scheduling goals. I try my best to keep my readers informed so you can enjoy the very best music during the days, weeks or months you spend here in the musical paradise that is Puerto Vallarta.
The talented group Media Luna’s return to Puerto Vallarta was celebrated Sunday, Nov. 3 to an absolutely full house at Babel Bar on the River Cuale Island and they were certainly received with ovations! They will be featured there every Sunday (except Nov. 9 when they will be away performing in Puebla). You can also catch up with them and their full new band in a spectacular show on November 12 at Incanto Cabaret Theater where they will thrill the audience with their first show of the season, Showtime is 7:00. They are scheduled there every two weeks same time! incantovallarta.com for tickets.
The fabulous flamenco group Tatewari, long time residents of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, kicks off their season at Incanto on Tuesday, November 5 with guest songstress, the beautiful and talented Perla Alarcón. They will preform alternating Tuesdays at 7:00 for the season. You can also catch them at Cuates y Cuetes next to the pier in the Romantic Zone at their new time, Mondays from 8-10.
Moruno has long been a favorite of mine and are presenting some impressive new shows at both Cuates y Cuetes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and some new shows at Incanto Cabaret Theater beginning November 8 at 7:00. The full group this year is a wonderful combination of Nacho Flores and Diego Mateo with Roberto Falcon on bass and Jaime Ramon on percussion. Their renditions of jazz manouche, mediteranean and jazz favorites are awe-inspiring.
I am also excited to see and hear more of Zoe and Leon as they morph more into the jazz with their trio and quartet this season at Incanto’s Piano Bar Saturday evenings and selected dates at Babel Bar. They also perform at Bistro Teresa.
Many of these groups will be featured along with several new projects inspired by their creative explorations and networking, at our first ever Bahia World Music Festival December 7 and 8 at the beautiful grounds of Oscar’s Tequila Distillery (worldmusicfestival.mx for more information).
The result of the hard work of my friend Jaír Cabrera of Media Luna and I will be this first world music festival in Puerto Vallarta which we hope to make an exciting annual event. We have been working hard to bring together great talent from our community and other regions of Mexico representing many different genres of music, much of it not usually available locally.
