When I first saw Nacho of Moruno and his girlfriend Magali playing at Cuates y Cuetes next to the pier in the Zona Romantica I was moved by their performance. A longtime super fan of Nacho Flores, it was fun to meet Magali Uribe and learn that she had picked up her violin after a short respite and she and Nacho were now making beautiful music together.
Recently at the Babel Bar Diá de la Raza fest, I saw them again in their new incarnation Suite Sound. They have grown together as a musical duo and Magali's music has really matured. They perform exquisitely together in perfect counterpoint. Magali’s at once sweet and moving vocals are a wonderful addition and when when she picks up her violin she and Nacho soar. Nacho is a true master on guitar and many other instruments including the Arabian Oud, Bazouki and Mandolin. His solos are mesmerizing.
Magali and friend are now playing as Dueto Tajin weekly at Babel Bar on Mondays from 1-3 and I hope we will continue hearing some combination of these talents at Cuates y Cuetes for brunch performances as the new season begins.
