Liliana Buneder is back in town for a short visit! Liliana’s jazz manouche group Faralae from Mexico City is a favorite here when they play for Cuates y Cuetes Annual Jazz Festival on March 21 each year. They will of course be here again when the festival rolls around but as a nice surprise, Liliana is visiting and you can catch her at Cuates y Cuetes with Los Diablitos, a group that includes Raphael Zermeño, also of Faralea, on electric guitar, Oscar Terazzas on Sax, Roberto Falcon on bass and Sam Dávalos on percussion. Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8-10PM. You will remember Liliana for her incredible Jazz numbers, many in French, and magnificent scat which sends her audiences into ecstasy. She is only here for a couple of weeks so make sure you catch one of her performances. Last August I traveled to Mexico City to see her perform with Faralae at a wonderful concert held on the terrace of El Museo del Estanquillo. It was well worth the trip!
Another enterprising woman, Susanna del Toro of Bucerias, has some surprises to offer as well. Susanna has a very cute gift shop and café on the south side of Bucerias. Starting Friday, February 1st she is offering some great dinner shows. Her guests on opening night will be Tatewari, the fiery flamenco group from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. It will be a prix fixe meal with music included. Café 626, Lazaro Cardenas #74. 7:00 PM. 322-102-3028 for reservations
Susanna will be offering a variety of musical evenings including Spanish and Cuban food, entertainment and more. Her compound houses GabyDance where the talented flamenco dancer and teacher Gaby Raygosa teaches and performs. Many Friday evenings feature her dance accompanied by Master Flamenco Guitarist Esaú Galván.
On February 2 in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Lobo y Jaguar (Esaú Galván) will perform incomparable improvised flamenco guitar with invited guests. The performances by Lobo and his protegé from many years ago, now a mature and very talented flamenco guitarist, Esaú Galván, is thrilling their audiences. The concerts have been sold out events so reservations are recommended at the Tree House Bar, Coral 66, La Cruz.
Tatewari will also present a couple of great shows at Tree House Bar in La Cruz February 11 and March 11 at 7:00 PM. Their popularity is definitely merited! The original music from their new CD XII.IV, as well as the pieces they have made part of their great repretoire keep fans coming back for more. Reserve at [email protected].
The well loved old friends and partners in crime, Latcho y Lobo will also have a concert in La Cruz on February 4 at Tree House Bar beginning at 7:00 PM. No doubt Andrea of the Blond Gypsies will be joining them. It should be a great show full of stories and inspiring guitar.
Stay tuned for news of an upcoming event at Babel Bar at the end of the Cuale River to celebrate the release of the talented group Moruno’s new CD. I can’t wait to hear what they have for us!
