So it is September! Where did the summer go?

And what a difference from last year. September 2019, our renowned flamenco group Tatewari from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, was in Canada on their first international tour. It went exceptionally well, and the fellows enjoyed the beautiful Canadian countryside and meeting friends of their fans from Puerto Vallarta. The plan was to revisit this summer, but Coronavirus interfered, as has happened to all of us.
Generally, musicians use September to firm up engagements for the coming season. However, those activities are somewhat on hold until clubs and venues are sure what kind of events will be allowed and what will work for them this winter.
However, the musical community has not been idle, though perhaps they are a bit hungry and living off the pure joy of creating beautiful music to play when we return to something close to normal.
The fabulous Latin fusion group Media Luna will travel to San Miguel de Allende this month to do some fantastic shows with the renowned guitarist and impresario, Gil Gutierrez, at his outdoor entertainment space La Sandunga beginning September 13. The popular venue on San Miguel's outskirts is a picturesque country style establishment offering an excellent place for celebrations and incredible music. The visit will be a perfect opportunity to introduce the new pieces they have worked on this summer. The band launched their successful career in San Miguel de Allende in 2014, often performing with their mentor, already a well-established owner of La Sandunga and the coveted Bistro Mia Casa Restaurant in town. They amassed a huge following to which they return for many performances each year. We are fortunate to have them here in Puerto Vallarta, where they have made their home and play during the season at the best venues.
Brian Macedo, of the talented Brazilian Jazz Band, Trem de Minas, just informed me they would have available their first official band t-shirt. The group has grown in popularity in Puerto Vallarta this past season. They regularly performed at the famous Babel Bar. We also enjoyed their stellar performance at the 2019 Bahia World Music Festival held last December at Oscar's Tequila Distillery on the River Cuale Island. You can hear them play currently at Cuates y Cuetes on the beach next to the pier in the Zona Romantica on Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings and other outdoor venues that are permitting musical performances.
Meanwhile, the musicians are jammin', showing off their skills and innovations together at informal gatherings, some of which make it from an incredible soirée onto Facebook via videos taken by friends and participants. It is so good to see faces and hear the music we have not enjoyed during this shutdown. I love seeing talents like Eduardo Leon and Nacho Flores playing guitar and Carlos Rodriguez on violin perform unrehearsed improvisations that blow my mind.
I can't wait to see all of them soon LIVE in Puerto Vallarta.
